Brooks Dewhurst Family

My mother was born Joan Brooks, to William and Eveline (Evelyn) Brooks. Eveline was born Eveline Dewhurst to George and Sarah Ellen Dewhurst.

William and Eveline had four children, my Uncle Richard, who was born in 1923, my mother Joan, born in 1924, my Aunt Isabel (Bell), born in 1926, and my Uncle William (Bill), born in 1935. Uncle Richard and his wife, Eveley lived in Colne, Lancashire when I was growing up and they had three children, Eveley (little Eveley, to distinguish her from her mother), Michael and Stephen. In 1963 they all emigrated to Adelaide, Australia. Richard died in 2002 and Eveley several years after that..

Richard and Eveley Brooks

Auntie Bell married George Williams (no relation to my father, Jack Williams). They divorced in the 1960s and Bell took her three children, my cousins, Laraine, David and Yvonne to live in Adelaide, Australia in 1968.

My Grandmother, Eveline had died shortly after my first birthday, after which my Grandfather moved in with his sisters, Bella and Mary Ann. It must have been too much for them to nurse him in his final illness, so my mother brought him to Manchester. He died shortly afterwards in Withington Hospital, Manchester. I remember going with my parents to pick up his things after he had died.
