The Williams and Brook Families

Welcome to the Williams and Brooks Family website, which is dedicated to my parents Jack Williams (1922-2012) and Joan (Brooks) Williams (1924-1991).

This website is primarily for my family, but may be of interest to others researching similar family links. Besides piecing together as many members of the various family branches as I can find, I also have tried to include some relevant social information of the times in which my ancestors lived. For example, what exactly was a cotton mule spinner, a lurryman, and a rover?

The most recent generations of my family have been based in Lancashire, brought there from counties such as Cheshire, the West Riding of Yorkshire, and the Lake District by work in the cotton and silk industries. Other family branches include Dewhurst, Hulme, Cartmell, Bird, Vernon, Willett, and Driver.

The pictures above are of my parents on their wedding day, May 6th 1946. My mother was particularly fond of that hat! The house is on Piccadilly Road, Burnley, Lancashire where my family lived from 1959 to 1982.

Navigation Through this Site
It is difficult to organize a logical sequence through an extended family tree, particularly as different people are interested in different family lines. The buttons above link to the main family branches. I suggest starting with the Introduction and then going to either the Brooks or the Williams pages. They each start with a link to their respective family trees, which in turn show links to the various branches.

A word on Copyrights: As much of the information in this website comes from outside sources, I have obtained permission from the source where appropriate, or cited the source. Please select the Permissions button at the top of the page for a list of permissions, sources and references for the material used in this web site.

I have many copies of Birth, Marriage and Death certificates of various people mentioned in these pages, but publishing them on the internet is not allowed. Instead I have written out the pertinent information contained in the certificates on the appropriate family page (which is allowed). If you are interested in seeing a copy of a certificate, please email me.
